We got beauty

There was a lot of chatter when I-74 was closed for construction. But, the ambitious construction project was well-handled. I was commuting from Mackinaw during most of the closures and aside from leaving home a bit early, it really was not an inconvenience.

Since the completion, we don’t talk about the project any more. Let up on the accelerator the next time you are zipping through the heart of Peoria at 75 mph (oh, really, you don’t drive that fast?). Slow down and admire the sheer beauty of the project.

A day like, when I-74 is closed, is a reminder to appreciate the upgrades. Even in this photo, you can see how truly beautiful the new I-74 is. (Photo is WEEK’s)

The new I-74 is elegant. Yes, it’s true. Concrete and rebar is elegant. The overpasses are so artistic. My favorite part of Forrest Hill is the I-74 overpass, with its iron fence and the lighted pillars.

We got so much more for our tax dollars than a new road. We got beauty. And safety. And a highway smooth enough that it is hard not to drive it like it’s the Audubon. Except for when we are in a blizzard. After all, this is Peoria.
