TELLPEORIA is seeking correspondents throughout central Illinois who want to report on their communities and neighborhoods. While our company is called “TELLPEORIA,” we serve communities in Peoria, Tazewell, Woodford, Fulton, McLean, Stark and Marshall counties. We also want writers from larger cities like Peoria and Pekin to make it even more local and tell us about their neighborhoods.
What kind of reporting?
We are looking for people who wants to be the eyes and ears of their communities. Just tell us what’s going on. Topics can include police and fire reports, as well as the news from your town or village board, as well as local schools. Tell us what your local service organizations, churches and neighborhood organizations are doing. Local sports news would be nice as well. Sometimes the news is just a sentence or two. Sometimes, it’s a longer piece that involves conducting interviews. And sometimes, the news is what you see looking out the window.
The emergence of citizen journalism and blogging has demonstrated that this sort of work doesn’t require advanced degrees or a ton of experience and training. Ordinary people perform acts of journalism every day. TELLPEORIA exists to help promote your work and help you get paid for it.
And there is also a strong sense of accomplishment from being a reliable source of information in your community, which may not be getting the coverage it deserves. Newspapers all over America are firing reporters and making those who remain to cover more stories.
What kind of writing is NOT welcome?
TELLPEORIA-hosted blogs are for citizen journalists. That doesn’t mean an occasional post about the kids or the cats isn’t welcome. But if your focus is not citizen journalism, you might want to use the Blog Peoria Project.
Can you run ads WITHOUT signing up for a TELLPEORIA blog?
Sure. Just sign-up as a publisher here, and insert the ad code in your site template in a locate where it will not “break” the theme.
How much does this pay?
Honestly, not much at first. And technically, we’re not hiring anybody.
But you can earn some money with us.
We can set correspondents up with their own blog, which will run ads our own TELL PEORIA Advertising Network. Correspondents will earn 75 percent of the revenue earned from our advertisers.
Think of TELLPEORIA as the sales department for your online news organization.
Do you already have a blog?
No problem. Sign up and will give you the code you can paste onto your template to run banner ads and/or text link ads. The ads that we sell to businesses in the Peoria-area community run on ALL member blogs.
Member blogs can also carry ads from any other third-party companies like Text-Link-Ads, Google Ads or Project Wonderful. Bloggers can also sell ads directly. We encourage you to do this, but be warned: Google is very jealous and will limit how much you get paid if you run someone else’s text ads. And you will have to do all the work.
You will receive a check once you’re site has generated $50 in revenue for yourself.
Why work with TellPeoria?
This isn’t just a blogging service, like hosted WordPress or Blogger. The founders of this organization have backgrounds in journalism. We’ll help you with copy editing and advice. We’ll link to your site on our front pages and print samples of your best work on our own blogs.

If you are interested, use information on our contact page. The only requirements are that you want to write and have decent spelling and grammar skills.
What happens next?
We will sign you up with a TELLPEORIA blog AND register you with our powerful OpenX ad server. You can get can copy and paste the ad code for the kinds of ads you wish into sidebar Widgets. We strongly suggest that you pick a three column theme and run LOTS of ads. You should use keywords to target your specific site or your community. We recommend doing this only after your site has been running for several months and is getting a following.
We strongly recommend posting a free “stat counter” button on your site that lets you count page views and see what other sites are sending you traffic. We recommend State Counter.
Once you’ve got your blog going … start writing. The more you write and the more relevant and informative your posts are, the more visits you will get. And the more visits you get, the more revenue you get. And as more page views you get and the more OTHER bloggers sign up, the more businesses throughout central Illinois will advertise on TELLPEORIA.
