We’ve got the book on citizen journalism

Sunday, February 21st, 2010

Moving to the top of the blog for a day or two. Consider using this, it’s a great resource.

TellPeoria is an affiliate of the Handbook for Citizen Journalists. I’ve read it, and it reads like I would expect a good college text book would read, were there a university journalism program offering courses in citizen journalism. The handbook (actually, a 210-page e-book) can answer all sorts of questions about nuts and bolts of writing, ethics, libel, etc. TellPeoria gets a 40-percent commission for every $19.99 book sold. Some changes to our adserver

Monday, January 4th, 2010

Due to unresolved issues with ease of use and security, Debbie and I decided at the last minute to stop using a Revsense adserver and start using AdQuick, a product of PHPLemon. We are still configuring some of the details, so I wouldn’t try to register and install any ad code just yet. You can look at it here. Here are some of the features:

* Manage Multiple Websites From 1 Account
* Approve/Reject Offers From Advertisers
* Approve/Reject Direct Ad Sales
* Detailed Live Ad Stats
* Customize How Ads Look On Your Website
* Set Ad Rates and Settings

Special offer for new TellPeoria Directory listings

Wednesday, December 16th, 2009

TellPeoria officially kicks off at the start of the new year. We’re celebrating a little early by offering a huge benefit for anyone adding their business or organization to the TellPeoria Directory Business Directory.

Sign up for a Premium or Basic account, and your business will not only be search-able and click-able, but you will receive credit for a TellPeoria Advertising account. Buy a Premium account for $120 and receive $60 worth of free advertising on Peoria Pundit, The Community Word and other Peoria sites. Buy a Basic account for $60, and you get $30 worth of free advertising.

Once you sign up, we’ll credit your account, and you can create ads that automatically appear on sites that publish our advertising. You can link these ads to your directory page, which will have a search-engine-friendly URL. That means more visitors to your site.

We’re now even more Google friendly

Tuesday, December 15th, 2009

Search Engine Friendly URLs are now enabled for TellPeoria Business Directory listings. This means that when Google spiders its way though TellPeoria listings, it will have an easier time deciding YOUR directory listing is it’s own separate Website. Be sure to take advantage of your available keywords to help search engines decide what your site is all about. This is automatic, and requires no action by users.

Coming up: Google Analytics.

Good news for online advertising

Forecast: Online Will Take More Ad Dollars Than Newspapers By 2015

From Zenith’s forecast: “The downturn has accelerated the structural shift of budgets from traditional media to the internet; in a time when marketing departments have to justify every dollar they spend, the rapid and clear returns offered by internet advertising are more attractive than the longer-term brand-building benefits offered by other media.”

But online’s growth is thanks more to the continuing success of the paid search model, which attracted 15 percent more money this year and is forecast for the same growth in the next three years, taking 53 percent of all internet spend. Display advertising online grew just six percent this year and classifieds just two percent.
