What kind of ads should I buy and sell?

“Pay per click” vs. “Cost-per-thousand”

A pay-per-click (PPC) ad is one in which the advertiser is charged a set amount of money each time customer clicks on the ad that’s been inserted onto a Web site. This lets advertisers pay only when they get customers to visit their Websites. Typically, PPC works best with text-link ads.

A cost per thousand (CPM) ad is one in which the advertiser is charged a set rate for every 1,000 times an ad appears on one ofr our Web site (also referred to an “impression”). This type of advertising is often used for banner ads, in which the advertiser benefits from people seeing the ad, whether or not customers clock on it and visit any Website. The larger the ad, the more noticeable it is and the more money it costs. A BIG advantage to CPM advertising is that it encourages publishers (the bloggers who run then) to build their readership.

Text ads

“Text link ads” the easiest and quickest way to get your company’s name on the Internet, and gives potential customers an a way to discover your business Website. It works like this: Sign up and we’ll add your text link ad to our list. Your ad will randomly appear in the sidebar of TellPeoria member blogs. Each time someone clicks on your link and visits your Web site (and we’ll happy help you create a directory listing or a business blog, or refer you to a professional Web consultant), your account will be charged $2 (this rate is subject to change). This is called “Pay-per-click.”

That’s a bargain, compared to what Google charges. For example, they charge $69.10 per click on the phrase “mesothelioma treatment options.” And we guarantee that the the owner of the site gets far less than this amount. TellPeoria, on the other hand, collects a 25 percent commission, which encourages participation by blog publishers.

Most text ads on TellPeoria run across multiple TellPeoria publishers.

Banner Ads

A “banner” ad is any graphic ad that runs on a Web site. They come in all sorts of sized, from mini buttons to those large “leaderboards” that run at the very top and very bottom of Websites.

Most of the people who buy banner ads have them designed, and are looking to place them on Websites. Some of the sizes are standardized, and TellPeoria has accommodates virtually ever ad format.

Naturally, the bigger the ad, the higher the cost.

All ads — including banner ads — sold through Tell Peoria are assumed to run across the entire system. Individual bloggers decide whether or not they run any banner ads or if they run any banner ads at all. Since they are potentially, the most lucrative, most will.

However, individual bloggers can create ad spaces that require you to list their specific site as a keyword. This drives more revenue to their site, but limits impressions for the advertiser. Some advertisers prefer this, especially, if they want to advertisers to residents in one community.

For the best results, we suggest submission of at least three ad sizes. 125×125 and 180×150 will fit in almost any sidebar. the 468×60 format is also popular, and these ads typically appear directly above or below posts, and are very visible. Some bloggers find them intrusive.
